Stillmoat
Terms and backups
Planned launch: 1 Jan 2027. Everything below describes Stillmoat at launch.
In short
Stillmoat is a private photo vault for iPhone, made by Leif Mork, an individual developer. The licence for the app is Apple’s standard one. This page explains it in plain words, says what we promise, and says when your photos can still be lost.
The most important part: your photos live on your iPhone and in your own backup. We have no server and no copy, so we can’t recover anything for you. Please read Your photos and backups.
The licence
When you download Stillmoat, you agree to Apple’s Standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement. Leif Mork grants that licence, not Apple. It lets you use Stillmoat on Apple devices you own or control, as Apple’s usage rules allow.
The agreement limits warranties and liability as far as the law allows. Where you live, the law may give you rights it can’t take away. See Your rights under consumer law.
If anything on this page and Apple’s agreement differ, the part that is better for you applies.
Your photos and backups
Stillmoat keeps your photos and videos encrypted on your iPhone. Backup is on unless you turn it off: an encrypted copy goes to your own iCloud Drive or a folder you choose in Files. Your backup can only be opened with your recovery key, which Stillmoat shows once at setup and never stores.
Your photos can still be lost:
- if backup is off,
- if iCloud is full,
- or if you lose your recovery key and also lose or reset your iPhone, delete Stillmoat, or forget your PIN.
Stillmoat warns you when backup is off, when iCloud is nearly full, when your recovery key was never confirmed, and when your backup hasn’t been checked for 30 days. If you lose your recovery key but still have your iPhone and PIN, you can make a new one in backup settings.
We have no server and no access to your vault, your backup or your recovery key. We can’t open, reset or recover your photos, even if you ask us to. Keep your recovery key on paper or in a password manager that isn’t tied to the Apple Account that holds your backup: anyone who has both could open the backup.
Purchases and refunds
You can keep up to 50 items for free, with backup included. One payment unlocks unlimited photos and videos. The price is shown in the App Store in your currency before you pay.
Apple sells the unlock for us and handles payment, cancellation and refunds under its own terms. To ask for a refund, use Apple’s Report a Problem page. To use your purchase on another iPhone, tap Restore purchases in Stillmoat’s settings, signed in with the same Apple Account.
What we promise and what we can’t
We promise:
- You never pay to see, export, back up or restore photos and videos you already added, even at the free limit.
- If you pay once, you keep everything you paid for. We will never move it behind a subscription.
- No ads, no account and no analytics in the app.
What we can’t promise: that a backup can be opened without your recovery key, that iCloud or Files will always have room, or that Apple will keep Stillmoat in the App Store or support it on every future iPhone and iOS version. We will always let you export your photos in original quality while the app runs.
Your rights under consumer law
Nothing on this page or in Apple’s agreement takes away rights the law gives you as a consumer. If Stillmoat doesn’t work as described, or a fault in Stillmoat causes you to lose photos, those rights apply, including in the UK, France and Germany.
The limits above describe what is technically possible. They are not a way of avoiding responsibility for our own mistakes.
Changes and contact
If these terms change in a way that matters, we will say so at the top of this page and update the date. A change never takes away something you already paid for.
How we handle the little data we see is in our privacy policy.
